If you find that you’re running out of space in one of your vm’s, and you need to increase the size of your virtual disk; well, it is actually pretty easy. In this tutorial, I’m covering how to increase the size of your vm disk in VMware Wrokstation 7. First, turn off your virtual machine. Second, you will have to remove every snapshot you took since you did a clean install of the vm. Ok, now that we’ve cover the bases, just follow the step by step instructions.

1- Go to the vm you want to increase, and click vm->settings

If you get error: “Virtual Machine appears to be in use” when you try to open the vmx file in VMware Workstation, is probably because the host machine experience an unexpected shutdown. This would be the error message.

So the solution is to go into the vm machine folder and delete all “lck” files.

If you’re like me that test pretty much any os and apps in some sort of virtual environment. In my case I use VMware Workstation, so when I decided to test Backtrack 4 final, I needed to install the vmware Tools, and here I go over the commands needed to install the vmware tools.

1- First go to VM->Install Vmware Tools (the figure shows as Reinstall VMware Tools because I had previously installed it) but yours should say “Install”
